City of Atlanta, Georgia (2017)
- Multiple streets totaling 325,000 S.Y. spread out over all 12 council districts of the City of Atlanta, Georgia.
BACKSTORY
After visiting Gallagher’s HIR project for Paulding Co., Georgia, in June of 2017, Atlanta’s innovative and forward-thinking public works department knew that HIR could benefit their resurfacing program.
AGENCY PROBLEM
The City of Atlanta needed a cost-effective solution to resurface older pavements and minimize reflective cracking.
GALLAGHER’S SOLUTION
Using the HIR process, prior to adding structure, resulted in further crack retardation and a longer lifecycle—as compared to a simple overlay. This combination of HIR with a thin wearing surface also provided a significant cost savings when compared to a traditional mill and fill process, as well as less traffic interruption.
